Off a 96 ZX900B. The others I found have the same thing to varying degrees. Looks and feels like gravel poking up from inside.

I thought the same thing, but with those irregular shapes, maybe it’s some kind of non conductive potting filler to save on epoxy.

In the same vein as JimZ, it seems like when they made them they didn’t degass the potting material, so it had airbubbles that rose to the top while it was curing.

It’s not just melted plastic, it definitely looks and feels like tiny stones. What’s odd is that every example I found on ebay had the same thing, although none as extensive as ours.

In seriousness, it’s probably chips of waste plastic that they used to pad out the potting epoxy, or something. Filler.
